Some of Australia’s most exciting up-and-coming international prospects have been selected in a 20-player Australia Under-18 squad set to participate in the 2025 UEFA Friendship Cup in May.

The tournament, to be held in Nyon, Switzerland, will be led by current Subway Young Socceroos assistant coach Richard Garcia.

The 20-player squad features 12 players from the Isuzu UTE A-League, including Brisbane Roar defender Lucas Herrington and Melbourne City forward Medin Memeti – both members of the Young Socceroos Under-20 Asian Cup title triumph this year.

Australia begin the tournament against Argentina U18s on Sunday, June 1, before games against France U18s and United States U18s on June 4 and 7 respectively.

Australia will play a fourth nation (TBC) on Tuesday, June 10.

Football Australia head of national teams Gary Moretti said the tournament will be used as preparation for the current crop of Under-18s ahead of joining the Under-20 setup in future years.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity from UEFA to be involved in a tournament that includes such an array of talented young teams from across the world,” Moretti said.

“The chance to participate in this tournament aligned perfectly with our long-term strategy for the Under-20 age group as we look ahead to 2027, and I’ve got no doubt there will be some invaluable learnings to take from this experience for our players and staff.

“This squad will get the opportunity to test themselves against some of the best in their age group and we’re looking forward to seeing them in action,” Moretti concluded.
