Five-time champion Andrew Redmayne returns to Mariners after 15 years: ‘A fairytale moment’

Veteran Isuzu UTE A-League and Subway Socceroos goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne has returned to Central Coast Mariners, ahead of the 2025-26 season.

The 36-year-old, 276-game Isuzu UTE A-League stalwart is back where his career began with a senior debut for the Mariners in 2008 amid a three-season stint in Gosford.

Redmayne is back in Mariners colours for the first time in 15 years.

Redmayne then went on to win two Championships and one Premiership title across two seasons at Brisbane Roar, before three years at Melbourne City and two at Western Sydney Wanderers.

The veteran gloveman has spent the past eight-and-a-half years at Sydney FC, where he took his Isuzu UTE A-League Championship tally to five, collecting three titles with the Sky Blues to go with a further three Premierships.

Redmayne won three Championships at Sydney FC.

Redmayne became an international icon in 2022 when his penalty shootout heroics in a World Cup qualifier against Peru saw him dubbed “The Grey Wiggle” as the Socceroos progressed to the major tournament off the back of the A-Leagues legend’s glovework.

Now, 15-and-a-half years after his last appearance for the Mariners, Redmayne has returned to Gosford for his second stint at the club.

The Socceroos goalkeeper became an international cult hero after his penalty shootout heroics.

“I’m ecstatic, it’s almost a fairytale moment, coming full circle,” Redmayne said. “I’m really looking forward to getting on the pitch and re-immersing myself in Central Coast life.

“I’ve got a lot of connections here with the likes of Vuka (Daniel Vukovic) and Simmo (Matt Simon), the roots of the Central Coast family run deep.

“My family is still here where I was born, just around the corner, so it’s quite a strong connection and once the phone call came it was a no-brainer.”

Redmayne is the first new arrival at the Mariners since the end of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2024-25 season.
