Hamza Sakhi scored an incredible goal in Melbourne City's 2-1 win over Western United in Round 11.

Hamza Sakhi will remain at Melbourne City beyond the end of the 2023-24 Isuzu UTE A-League season, after signing with the club permanently.

Sakhi initially joined City on a one-year loan deal from French Ligue 2 side AJ Auxerre with an option to buy, which the three-time reigning premiers have opted to exercise, signing him until the end of the 2024-25 season.

The Moroccan has appeared in all 19 competitive fixtures since arriving at City and scored his first goal for the club with a stunning long-range strike in their 2-1 win over Western United last weekend.

Sakhi started the season playing as an attacking midfielder but has settled into a defensive midfielder role in recent weeks, where he has excelled sitting in behind Tolgay Arslan and Alessandro Lopane.

”Hamza is a quality player who has now settled into the rhythm of the team and become a pivotal player for us,” Melbourne City Director of Football Michael Petrillo said.

“We had the option to make the transfer a permanent one and we had no hesitation in doing so. We look forward to Hamza continuing to be an important part of our midfield.”
