Sydney FC great Andrew Redmayne to leave the club at season’s end: Full Details

Sydney FC have announced goalkeeping great Andrew Redmayne will depart the club at the end of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Having chalked up 237 appearances for the Sky Blues during his eight-and-a-half-year spell at the club, Redmayne will leave Sydney FC at season’s end when his current contract expires.

Currently ranked third on the club’s all-time appearance list behind Sky Blues greats Alex Brosque and Rhyan Grant, the four-time Socceroo and A-Leagues icon will depart having left an indelible mark on the club and it’s fans.

“These eight-and-a-half seasons have been the best of my career, and the most successful. Sydney FC will always have a special place in my heart,”

Andrew Redmayne on his imminent Sydney FC departure.

“From the moment I arrived, this club welcomed me and gave me everything – belief, support and the chance to be part of something truly special. I’ve made lifelong memories and lifelong friends.

“To the Members and fans, thank you. You’ve supported me through everything and helped make this place feel like home. I’ll always be proud to have worn this jersey, your jersey.

“I’m excited for the next chapter of my life and the new adventure ahead, but I will always look back on my time with Sydney FC with immense pride and gratitude.”

Redmayne has fallen down the pecking order this season with Sky Blues head coach Ufuk Talay instead handing the number one jersey to current goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares.

However the 35-year-old will go down as the club’s greatest ever goalkeeper and will walk away having won three Championships, three Premierships, two Australia Cup titles as well as keeping 64 clean sheets.

“Redders’ loyalty and achievements at this football club will be rightly remembered and recognised,” said club captain and close friend Rhyan Grant.

“He’s been an integral part of the team’s successes for many years and has contributed in so many ways.

“Beyond that, he’s been an outstanding figure around the club, a mentor to younger players – the ultimate team-mate, professional and friend.

“He leaves a legacy that will never be forgotten.”

Already a Sydney FC legend, Redmayne also wrote himself into Socceroos folklore following his penalty saving antics which helped Australia qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The Sky Blues take on Newcastle Jets at Alllianz Stadium on Sunday in what will be both Redmayne and the club’s final home game of the campaign.

As such, Sydney FC will be paying tribute to their outbound custodian before Sunday’s clash against the Jets, with fans urged to arrive at the stadium early to witness the presentation.

Currently sat sixth on the ladder, Sydney FC will be looking to bounce back following their heartbreaking midweek exit from the AFC Champions League Two against Singaporean side Lion City Sailors.
