Sydney FC’s attacking stocks have been bolstered by the return of Adam Le Fondre on a two-and-a-half year contract in the Harbour City.
Le Fondre returns to the club after a stint with Indian Super League side Mumbai City FC. The Englishman has two A-League Championships and one Premiership to his name earned throughout 68 appearances in Sky Blue to date.
Le Fondre scored 45 goals for Sydney FC throughout his prior spell, and returns to a side already brimming with attacking talent offered up by the likes of Brazilian striker Bobô, Kosta Barbarouses and the up-and-coming Luke Ivanovic, Trent Buhagiar, Patrick Wood and Jordi Swibel.
On his return to the league, Le Fondre told the club website he’s been keeping tabs on the Sky Blues in his absence.
“This club and this city had an enormous impact on me and my family during my time here and I’m so pleased to be coming back,” said Le Fondre.
“It’s like I’m coming home and to know I have signed for even longer than last time is a fantastic feeling.
“I’ve watched all of our games this season and the boys have been doing well.
“I’m looking forward to helping them step it up again and we’ll be firing on all cylinders in the back half of the season.”
Le Fondre arrives in Sydney tonight, where he will emerge from quarantine in 14 days time.
Sydney boss Steve Corica says Le Fondre’s return offers defenders around the league another threat to worry about as the Sky Blues look to build momentum in the latter stages of the season.
“Adam did a fantastic job for us over the last two years and I’ve no doubt he will do it again,” he said.
“He will give us another huge threat up front, on top of the fabulous players we already have here. It will be one more thing for the opposition defenders to worry about.
“I’m looking forward to watching how he works with our other strikers and it’s going to make the race for the club’s Golden Boot even more interesting.”
