Grand Finalists dominate PFA’s 2023-24 Liberty A-League Team of the Year

Professional Footballers Australia (PFA) has announced its 2023-24 Liberty A-League Team of the Year and it features a host of Grand Final stars.

Defending champions Sydney FC have four representatives in the squad, while premiers Melbourne City also have four – including head coach Dario Vidosic – ahead of Saturday’s blockbuster decider at AAMI Park.

Matildas and Sky Blues star Cortnee Vine is in the starting XI after scoring a career-high 10 goals and she is joined by teammate Charlotte Mclean, who helped Sydney finish with the best defensive record.

Sydney duo Jada Whyman and Mackenzie Hawkesby are also in the team following stellar campaigns.

Rhianna Pollicina and inspirational defender Rebekah Stott are City’s representatives in the starting XI, with Taylor Otto on the bench.

Golden Boot winner and Matildas star Michelle Heyman captains the line-up while Canberra teammate Vesna Milivojevic is also included, along with Philippines international Sarina Bolden of Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory goalkeeper Morgan Aquino.

There are three Melbourne Victory players recognised in the line-up and four in total – Alex Chidiac, Kayla Morrison, Jamila Rankin and Emily Gielnik.

Kiwi sensation Macey Fraser has also been selected following a breakout season with Wellington Phoenix which earned a record-breaking transfer to the United States, while Western United’s Grace Maher completes the PFA’s squad.
