Canberra United youngster Hayley Taylor-Young has been ruled out for the remainder of the Liberty A-League season after sustaining a serious ankle injury.

The club confirmed the news on Wednesday as they gear up for their return to action this weekend against Newcastle Jets at home.

Taylor-Young hasn’t made an appearance this season, after being a constant presence in the Canberra lineup over the last few campaigns.

The 21-year-old is a graduate of the club’s pathway program, making her debut in the 2019-20 season.

She put together her best season to date last campaign, starting 12 of her 16 appearances for Canberra, before going on to be one of 40 footballers to be awarded a Future Matildas scholarship as part of their initial class of 2023.

Taylor-Young is the third Liberty A-League player this week to be ruled out with a season-ending injury, joining Melbourne City’s Holly McNamara and Brisbane Roar’s Chelsea Blissett – who sustained ACL injuries on the weekend.
