Can anyone stop Melbourne City this season? The reigning premiers and league leaders are the only undefeated team remaining heading into week seven of 2024-25.

If star-studded City were not a daunting proposition already, they have now been able to add Holly McNamara back into the mix following her long-awaited return from an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

Led by Fiona Worts and Co, Adelaide are enjoying a much better season than 2023-24 despite last week’s defeat away to Perth Glory.

However, history is against the Reds – who will be without suspended Matilda McNamara – when it comes to facing City, who are unbeaten in the past six meetings between the two sides, dating back to January 2021.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Perth Glory

Western Sydney Wanderers’ season has sprung to life following last week’s sensational 5-1 rout of Western United.

Fuelled by Sienna Saveska’s incredible 17-minute hat-trick, the Wanderers celebrated their first win of the campaign, though they remain bottom of the standings on goal difference as they prepare to welcome 10th-placed Perth Glory to Western Sydney.

It was the most goals scored by the Wanderers since a 5-0 demolition of rivals Sydney FC in 2019.

Next up are Perth, who are coming off a 3-1 victory against Adelaide United at the Sam Kerr Football Centre, where they won for the first time thanks to maiden goals from Gabby Hollar and Naomi Chinnama.

The Wanderers have emerged triumphant in the past two games against Perth while they are unbeaten in three. The Glory have not won away to Western Sydney since a 5-1 success in 2019.

Wellington Phoenix v Sydney FC

Saturday, December 21st – Porirua Park 2:00pm kick-off AEDT

Can Wellington Phoenix make history this weekend?

The in-form Phoenix have never beaten Sydney FC on home soil as they prepare to play host to the defending champions at Porirua Park on Saturday. Since entering the competition in 2021-22, Wellington have topped the Sky Blues once away from home in March last year.

Wellington come into the fixture in fine form amid a three-match undefeated run – a streak that has seen the ‘Nix conquer Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar while snatching a point away to Melbourne Victory to close within a point of the top six.

As for Sydney, Ante Juric’s new-look side are languishing above bottom spot on goal difference amid their struggles. With four points from six matches, the titleholders are desperate for a result in Round 7 following their late collapse against Newcastle Jets.

Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar

Saturday’s contest has the makings of a thriller as Newcastle Jets and Brisbane Roar meet at Maitland Sports Ground.

The Jets are coming off a wild win over Sydney FC, which saw Newcastle scored a 95th-minute winner after goalkeeper Danielle Krzyzaniak was sent off.

Boasting CommBank Matildas defender Tash Prior, the sixth-placed Jets have the chance to close within a point of second-placed Brisbane Roar, who will again be spearheaded by Australia stars Tameka Yallop and Sharn Freier.

The Jets have won two straight games against the Roar.

Canberra United v Melbourne Victory

Michelle Heyman v Emily Gielnik. Strap yourselves in, folks. This should be fun.

The two Matildas stars will go head-to-head as Canberra United play host to third-placed Melbourne Victory on Saturday evening.

A-Leagues legend and the competition’s all-time leading goalscorer, Heyman is coming off a two-goal performance against Melbourne City last time out, while Gielnik leads the Golden Boot race alongside Worts with six goals.

As Maja Markovski reunites with former club Victory, Canberra have the chance to snap a four-game drought following back-to-back losses that has left the capital team a point outside the top six.

Central Coast Mariners v Western United

Sunday, December 22nd – Industree Group Stadiym 5:00pm kick-off AEDT

Gosford is where Central Coast Mariners and Western United will be seeking bounce-back wins.

Both the Mariners and Western head into the matchup on the back of defeats – Central Coast were edged out by Brisbane 2-1, while Western were swept aside 5-1 by the Wanderers.

While Central Coast lost, it did see 16-year-old sensation Tiana Fuller score back-to-back goals.

In their three previous meetings, Western have not lost to the Mariners (W1 D2) dating back to last season when Central Coast returned to the competition.
