Newcastle Jets veteran Jason Hoffman is preparing to go around for at least a further two seasons, after signing a contract extension with the club until the end of the 2021/22 season.
The Newcastle local has amassed 126 appearances for the club and is the only player left in the Jets’ squad from their 2007/08 Hyundai A-League Grand Final win over Central Coast Mariners.
The 30-year-old is currently in his second stint at the club.
As news of the contract extension broke, Hoffman said re-signing with the club where he made his professional debut as a 16-year-old was a fantastic achievement.
“I grew up as a fan of the Breakers and the Jets, so to have signed an extension with my hometown Club is fantastic,” Hoffman said in a club statement.
MATCH PREVIEW: Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets
“My debut as a professional footballer was with Newcastle as a 16-year-old, I’ve been a part of two Grand Finals with the Jets and this is a Club that means a lot to me.
“I’m happy and proud to be able to play for Newcastle and I’m delighted to have my future secured in Jets colours.”
Newcastle Jets Head Coach Ernie Merrick says retaining Hoffman – a senior member of his side – was imperative for the club going forward.
“Jason is a very senior member of the playing group who commands a lot of respect, and rightly so,” Merrick said.
“We’ve seen that on a few occasions when he’s taken the armband, his leadership qualities on and off the field are clear to see.
“To have a player of his ability and versatility secured for the next two seasons is huge for the Club and I’m confident his football will only continue to improve.”
