Adelaide farewell Reds star after his best ever top-flight season

Adelaide United have mutually parted ways with Japanese forward Hiroshi Ibusuki after three seasons with the Isuzu UTE A-League outfit.

Ibusuki farewells Adelaide following his best ever top-flight campaign as the 33-year-old scooped three awards at the club’s end-of-season awards, having taken home the Golden Boot, RAA Members’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year.

The former Sevilla and Valencia front man scored 15 goals in 26 appearances for Adelaide in 2023-24. He scored 20 goals for Sevilla II in 2011-12 but that was for the Spanish side’s reserve team.

The club explored the opportunity to keep Ibusuki, but “wholeheartedly support” the 32-year-old’s decision to pursue a “longer term opportunity.”

“These past three years have been filled with unforgettable memories and support that has made me and my family feel truly loved,” said Hiroshi.

“Thank you for embracing us and making this place feel like home.

“Though I may be moving on, the bond we’ve formed will forever remain in my heart.

“Farewell and may our paths cross again someday.”

Ibusuki leaves Coopers Stadium with 28 A-Leagues goals and 30 across all competitions following his arrival in 2021-22.

He is the latest star forward to leave Adelaide, with teenage sensation Nestory Irankunda off to German giants Bayern Munich.

Adelaide coach Carl Veart wished Ibusuki well for the next chapter of his career.

“Hiroshi is a popular character in the dressing room and brought a lot of happiness to the playing group,” Veart said.

“He always gave 100% and we appreciate his efforts during his time with us.
