A-Leagues great Carl Valeri accepts new role at Victory: ‘I understand the responsibility’

Former Melbourne Victory captain and Socceroo Carl Valeri has returned to the club he won two Isuzu UTE A-League Championships, taking on a new position on the club’s board of directors.

Valeri captained the club for five years between 2014 and 2019, making 113 A-League Men appearances to go with two Championships, one Premiers Plate and an FFA Cup title.

The midfielder has also worked with the club’s men’s, women’s and academy sides in an administrative capacity. With his new position on the club’s board, Victory chairman John Dovaston believes Valeri will make a significant influence at the club.

“We’re incredibly excited to have someone of Carl’s calibre on the board at Melbourne Victory and we believe he will be an invaluable asset in his new position,” Dovaston said.

“Carl’s playing credentials speaks for itself but what he has done in a business and personal space after football has allowed him to become the perfect candidate to join the Board as a Director.

“His knowledge of the club and football, from a player to what happens in the office, is second to none and we believe he will be an asset to everything we do at Board level.”

Valeri said it was an honour to return to the club and sees the new role as an opportunity to make a genuine impact.

“I understand the responsibility this role entails and how important it is that the decisions made at the club are for the good of the club and I’m excited to be part of that process,” Valeri said.

“Melbourne Victory means so much to me and my family. It is a club that has been a part of my life since returning to Australia and to be able to contribute in this way is exciting for me and hopefully just as exciting for our members, fans, supporters, staff and players.”
