Sydney FC have significantly bolstered their squad ahead of the 2023-24 season, with the arrivals of Lucy Johnson, Aideen Keane and Margaux Chauvet.
Johnson and Keane arrive at the Liberty A-League Champions from Newcastle Jets and Perth Glory respectively, while Chauvet returns to the Sky Blues following an injury replacement spell at the club last season.
“All three girls will bring a fresh energy and desire to the squad, and they have good experience in this competition,” Sydney FC coach Ante Juric said.
“Lucy had a good last season and has proven to be a gifted midfielder. Aideen has enormous potential and is an exciting player. Margaux is a quality defender who can do several roles within a team. I am excited to have all three players join us this season.
“It’s important we refresh our squad for the new season and that our players continue to have competition for their starting places. These players, along with a few others, will do that.”

Johnson made 18 appearances for the Jets last season, scoring a single goal in a 2-2 draw with Adelaide United – which meant she became the first Tasmanian to score in the Liberty A-League.
Her arrival helps bolster their midfield corps, having already lost Mackenzie Hawkesby and Sarah Hunter to Brighton & Hove Albion and Paris FC respectively.
“I’m delighted to be signing with this huge club that is Sydney FC. I’m determined to continue the tradition of bringing success to this club. I can’t wait to get to work with Ante and the girls,” she said.
“It’s a big club, with high expectations but I am looking forward to that challenge.”
Keane, on the other hand, arrives after spells at Glory and Western Sydney Wanderers. The dynamic attacker also helps fill the gap left in attack by the outgoing Madison Haley and Rachel Lowe.
“I’m so excited to be joining the club, I want to learn from the environment and create successful memories,” Keane said.
“Sydney FC is a proven platform for players to progress and gain either international recognition or be rewarded with careers overseas and that is something I want to achieve.”
Meanwhile, versatile defender Chauvet returns after a short stint at the club last season, despite not featuring for Juric’s side during her stay.
Prior to arriving at the club, she plied her trade for cross-town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers between 2020-22 where she made eight appearances.
“I got a good understanding for the culture within this club last season and I’m very grateful to be experiencing it again,” Chauvet said.
“I’m excited to help this double title defence and am determined to earn a starting spot.”
The club also announced the departure of Mary Stanic-Floody, in order to allow her to pursue other opportunities.
