The Western Sydney Wanderers have secured their first victory in four games with a stunning 4-0 win over Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium.
Steven Ugarkovic opened the scoring inside the first six minutes, with Bozhidar Kraev and Ryan Fraser getting on the scoresheet before half time and Brandon Borrello putting the icing on the cake in the 70th minute after a scorching assist from Dylan Scicluna.
Western Sydney came out of the blocks flying, with Ugarkovic finding the back of the net courtesy of a classy assist from Alex Gersbach.
Gary van Egmond’s men continued their early onslaught and were narrowly denied a second within 13 minutes after Angus Thurgate’s goal was eventually ruled out for offside.
Kraev got the visitors their second goal just ten minutes after with a clinical finish – but a collision between the referee and Luke Brattan in the build-up caused plenty of frustration from the Bulls players and bench.
Things went from bad to worse for the Bulls on the stroke of halftime, as young goalkeeper Alex Robinson misplaced his pass directly into the path of Fraser, where the Scotsman neatly dinked his effort into the back of the net.
The Wanderers pounced with their fourth goal in the 70th minute after Scicluna’s brilliant play led to him picking out Borrello for his first goal from open play in 22 games.
The result lifted Western Sydney off the bottom of the table on goal difference, although Wellington can jump them again if they take a point off Sydney FC tomorrow.
Macarthur will need to do some soul searching after the bruising loss, but hang on to a finals spot by two points ahead of Central Coast Mariners.
That spot in the top six will be directly on the line this Wednesday night when the Bulls host the Mariners at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, while the Wanderers take on Newcastle Jets at McDonald Jones Stadium next Saturday.
