Current table position
Wellington Phoenix: 9th
Melbourne City: 8th

Round 14 result
Wellington Phoenix: 4-1 loss to Newcastle Jets (A)
Melbourne City: 6-2 loss to Macarthur FC (A)

Wellington were undone by the high-flying Newcastle Jets up in the Hunter, while Melbourne City were disappointing against the resurgent Macarthur Bulls.

Wellington’s only goal in their loss came from their new signing, Sander Kartum. The Norwegian midfielder was introduced in the 82nd minute and by the 86th minute, he had his first Isuzu UTE A-League goal.

It was a night to forget for goalkeeper Patrick Beach last time out against Macarthur, the City keeper shipping six goals, making no saves and making just the one claim from a cross.

City did get a solid performance from Marcus Younis on his return to the league. Younis left a number of Bulls defenders in his wake on his way to scoring their second goal for the night on the counter attack.

A win for City will get them back into the top 6, while a win for Wellington will bring them up to 7th.

Adelaide United v Macarthur FC

Friday, January 30 – Coopers Stadium – 7:35pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Adelaide United: 5th
Macarthur FC: 3rd

Round 14 result
Adelaide United: 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar (A)
Macarthur FC: 6-2 win over Melbourne City (H)

Brody Burkitt pulled Adelaide out of the fire after coming on at half time against Brisbane Roar last week, equalising twice before scoring a 92nd minute winner en route to completing a perfect hat-trick.

Adelaide local Burkitt currently has the best goals to game ratio of any professional footballer ever. With three goals from his two substitute appearances, his 150% scoring rate is better than Pelé.

Now, can the 19-year-old keep it at that level? It’s highly unlikely. But it’s a nice stat to hold while it lasts.

Macarthur were ruthless at home to Melbourne City as they won their first match since new year’s day, finding the net six times through six different scorers. Socceroos Mitch Duke, Anthony Caceres and Luke Brattan scored in the first half, before young wingers Luke Vickery and Dean Bosjnak along with leading goalscorer Harry Sawyer scored in the second.

These sides met in Round 2 at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, where Macarthur took a 2-1 victory.

Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar

Saturday, January 31 – McDonald Jones Stadium – 5:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Newcastle Jets: 2nd
Brisbane Roar: 6th

Round 14 result
Newcastle Jets: 4-1 win over Wellington Phoenix (H)
Brisbane Roar: 3-2 loss to Adelaide United (H)

Newcastle Jets were at their entertaining best against Wellington Phoenix last Friday night, with Lachlan Bayliss, Clayton Taylor, Eli Adams and Xavier Bertoncello all amongst the goals.

Jets keeper James Delianov is riding a wave of confidence, conceding just three goals and making 17 saves in the four matches since New Year’s Day.

Brisbane hit the front twice against Adelaide United, first through Sam Klein, then through Chris Long. However, they just couldn’t put the game to bed – Adelaide winning the game in stoppage time.

In Brisbane’s five matches in 2026, they’ve won just one. The 2-1 win against Perth two weeks ago. This slide in form has seen them fall from the top three, to just holding onto the top six.

The Roar hosted Newcastle on the 9th of November, comfortably winning 3-0.

Sydney FC v Western Sydney Wanderers

Saturday, January 31 – Allianz Stadium – 7:35pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Sydney FC: 4th
Western Sydney Wanderers: 11th

Round 14 result
Sydney FC: 4-0 loss to Melbourne Victory (A)
Western Sydney Wanderers: 1-0 win over Perth Glory (H)

Sydney looked a shadow of themselves against Melbourne Victory in their Australia Day clash. Open at the back, vulnerable to the counter attack and created very few chances in attack en route to a 4-0 loss.

Western Sydney needed some crucial saves from goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas and a stoppage time goal from new Scottish winger Ryan Fraser to earn their win over Perth Glory.

Now seems like a good time for the Sydney Derby to fall, because at least one team usually lifts for it – and both teams could do with it being them.

In a boost for Sydney FC, star winger Joe Lolley will be back fit for the derby. Even if the Englishman doesn’t start, having him to use off the bench will be extremely helpful to their cause.

The first Sydney Derby of the season saw Alou Kuol’s opportune snipe from in close land the Wanderers a 1-0 win.

Perth Glory v Auckland FC

Saturday, January 31 – HBF Park – 9:45pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Perth Glory: 10th
Auckland FC: 1st

Round 14 result
Perth Glory: 1-0 loss to Western Sydney Wanderers (A)
Auckland FC: 2-2 draw against Central Coast Mariners (H)

Perth Glory looked to have kept out the Western Sydney barrage for what would have been their first draw since October, however the Wanderers’ late winner kept the Glory in 10th spot heading into this match.

The young base of Perth’s midfield keeps improving, with Rhys Bozinovski and Giovanni de Abreu becoming some of the most accurate passers in the league.

Auckland’s all powerful front three continued their streak against Central Coast, with Jesse Randall and Sam Cosgrove both scoring.

The issues for Auckland in the last couple of weeks have come in defence, conceding two goals in both of their last matches for the first time since December 2024. They were tighter at the back against the Mariners, but a late error from goalkeeper Michael Woud gifted the Mariners a late equaliser.

Central Coast Mariners v Melbourne Victory

Sunday, February 1 – polytec Stadium – 5:00pm AEDT

MATCH CENTRE | BUY TICKETS | HOW TO WATCH

Current table position
Central Coast Mariners: 12th
Melbourne Victory: 7th

Round 14 result
Central Coast Mariners: 2-2 draw against Auckland FC (A)
Melbourne Victory: 4-0 win over Sydney FC (H)

The Central Coast Mariners were fortunate to come back from Auckland with a point, Oliver Lavale pounced on a goalkeeper error in the dying stages to scramble home an equaliser.

The former Western United striker has had a good start to life as a Mariner, scoring both goals in their 2-2 draw in what was just his second start.

Melbourne Victory ran Sydney FC ragged on Monday night, Brazilian winger Clerismario Santos used his blistering pace to score two goals, while Keegan Jelacic and Lachlan Jackson nabbed one each.

Juan Mata was at his creative best, setting up Santos with a perfectly placed long ball for his first goal, a deft controlling touch for Jelacic’s goal and a pinpoint corner delivery for Jackson to head in.

A win here for Central Coast could get them off the bottom of the table, while a win for Victory could get them as high as third.
