Central Coast Mariners goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne says he’s ‘in a good spot’ both on and off the pitch after producing an inspiring display against Wellington Phoenix on Sunday afternoon.
The veteran shot-stopper was instrumental as the Mariners fought back from a goal down at polytec Stadium, with Redmayne pulling off a string of key saves to deny the unbeaten Phoenix and secure a valuable point for Warren Moon’s side.
“If you’d asked us if we’d take a point at halftime, we’d probably take it,” said Redmayne following a second half which saw him repeatedly deny the Phoenix attack. “It was a fair result — a classic game of two halves.”

The 36-year-old is fast becoming one of the signings of the off-season for the Mariners after re-joining his boyhood club following a trophy-laden stint with Sydney FC.
Despite winning three Premierships and three Championships during his time in the Harbour City, Redmayne found himself displaced last season in favour of current Sydney FC goalkeeper Harrison Devenish-Meares.
However, the four-time CommBank Socceroo is flourishing since returning to the Central Coast and believes his good form is down to two key reasons.
“It’s nice playing in front of friends and family, having the little ones here,” Redmayne said, when speaking to Paramount+ after the game.
“But I think just working under Danny Vukovic, who I’ve looked up to my whole career, is amazing. He gets it — he understands it, fresh out of playing himself — so I’m in a good spot personally.”
A two-time Championship winner with the Mariners, Vukovic officially retired from playing after completing a memorable treble with the club during the Isuzu UTE A-League 2023-24 season, and now serves as goalkeeping coach.

“He’s been an icon of Australian goalkeeping for the best part of the whole A-League I should say.
“(For) 20 years he’s done it domestically, he’s done it internationally, but also for his country — I feel like I’m forever in his shadow.
He continued: “But it’s just a pleasure to learn off of him every single day. I feel like I’m constantly playing to pay him back for bringing me the Mariners.”
Redmayne finished Sunday’s clash having made seven key saves in total, many of which had the home crowd on their feet as he continued to be a source of frustration for the Wellington attack.
Contracted for the 2025-26 campaign, Redmayne admits he hasn’t thought too much about the future.
However, he did hint post-game that working with Vukovic has made him want to emulate his idol in more ways than one.
“I really enjoy developing young goalkeepers. With my primary school teaching degree, it’s something I’m passionate about, just coaching the fundamentals of goalkeeping as opposed to the top level.
He added: “We’ll see what comes after football, but I’m really enjoying my time now, just wish we had a couple more points today.”
Next up for the Mariners is a clash against Perth in Round 4, with the Mariners travelling to HBF Park on Friday night to face a Glory side yet to win a game this season.
