Sydney FC have signed exciting young winger Abel Walatee on a four-year deal set to run until the end of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2028-29 season.
The 21-year-old arrived in the Harbour City from Western United where he made 25 appearances in two seasons. Walatee joins the Sky Blues after Western United’s Club Participation Agreement (CPA) was placed in conditional hibernation for the upcoming campaign.
Born in Ghana, Walatee arrived in Australia with his family at the age of eight after a period living in Liberia. Now he’s an Australian youth international and recently helped the CommBank Olyroos qualify for the AFC Under-23 Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Sydney head coach Ufuk Talay says Walatee’s attacking skillset will cause problems aplenty for rival defenders in the Isuzu UTE A-League as he begins his four-year tenure in Sky Blue
“Abel is an outstanding young talent with electric pace and mesmerising skill,” Talay said.
“He’s explosive, can create dangerous opportunities out of nothing, and he adds another fantastic weapon to our armoury.
“I’m sure he will frighten A-League defences this season and give us a huge boost in our push for success.”
STATEMENT SIGNING: Juan Mata joins Melbourne Victory
Walatee is the eighth new arrival at the Sky Blues ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season, joining Al Hassan Toure, Rhys Youlley, Akol Akon, Paul Okon-Engstler, Marcel Tisserand, Piero Quispe (loan) and Victor Campuzano at the club.
“I’m really excited to join Sydney FC and be given this opportunity to progress my career at such a successful club,” Walatee said.
“The Sky Blues have a young and energetic squad who are looking sharp in pre-season and I’m confident we will be challenging for silverware this year.
“For me, this is the perfect place to keep developing, testing myself at the highest level in Australia, and working hard to give our fans the kind of attacking football they love.”
