Auckland FC have strengthened their goalkeeping stocks following the departure of Alex Paulsen, signing Stoke City goalkeeper Scott Morris ahead of the upcoming Isuzu UTE A-League season.
Born and raised in Nelson, Morris shone for numerous clubs in New Zealand before being spotted by Stoke while playing for Christchurch United.

Joining the Potters in early 2024, the 24-year-old played a handful of games for Stoke’s reserve side against the likes of Newcastle United and Liverpool before returning to his native country to sign for Steve Corica’s Premiership-winning Auckland FC.

“It is great to be back home in New Zealand and joining a team with such an energetic and enthusiastic fan base,” said Morris.
“I’ve been following the Auckland FC journey whilst overseas. It has been incredible to witness, nothing like this has existed previously.
“I’m buzzing to now be joining the team and be a part of what Steve, Terry (Director of Football, Terry McFlynn) and Gouldy (goalkeeping coach Jonathan Gould) have created.”

Following Paulsen’s return to Premier League club AFC Bournemouth, the Black Knights needed to add depth to their goalkeeping department and Morris’ arrival means he will now compete with existing keepers Michael Woud and Joseph Knowles for the number one jersey.
“Scott is a great young player with a lot of potential,” said Gould when asked about Morris’ chances of competing with Woud for a starting spot.
“You can be called on at any time as a goalkeeper, and as deputy, it requires a lot of patience, focus, and commitment, despite the potentially limited game time.
“He is going to be a great addition to the team and I look forward to working with
him.”
