Brisbane Roar learn AFC Champions League qualifying opponents

Brisbane Roar will meet Filipino outfit Ceres-Negros in the first hurdle to booking an AFC Champions League group stage berth.

Locked at 1-1 after extra-time, the Philippines Football League champions ousted Shan United 4-3 on penalties on Tuesday night to advance to Preliminary Stage 2.

Brisbane are set to host the do-or-die encounter at Queensland Sport & Athletics Centre (QSAC) Stadium next Tuesday, 23 January.

If they win, John Aloisi’s men will progress to a final sudden death play-off away to Chinese Super League outfit Tianjin Quanjian to determine which team progresses to the group stage.

Roar have previously enjoyed success on the arduous qualification path, famously dumping out a star-studded Shanghai Shenhua in last season’s play-off round.

The Queensland club have appeared in the main draw of Asia’s top intercontinental competition on three occasions.
