Perth Glory sign Jay O’Shea for remainder of A-League Men season

Perth Glory have signed experienced midfielder Jay O’Shea for the remainder of the 2026/27 A-League Men season following his departure from Brisbane Roar.

O’Shea spent the past seven seasons with Brisbane, making nearly 200 appearances in the competition and recording 31 goals and 36 assists.

The midfielder was named Brisbane’s Player of the Year twice, won the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award on six occasions and was selected for the A-League All Stars twice during his time at the club.

Before moving to Australia, the former Republic of Ireland youth international played in the League of Ireland before securing a move to Birmingham City in 2009.

He went on to make more than 300 appearances across all competitions for English clubs including Middlesbrough, Sheffield United, MK Dons, Chesterfield and Bury.

O’Shea said he was looking forward to the next chapter of his career at Glory.

“I’m really looking forward to this next chapter with Perth Glory,” he said.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Perth Glory for showing faith in me.

“I’ve always enjoyed playing at HBF Park over the years, so it will be even better to experience it with the support of our Members and fans and especially The Shed.

“I can’t wait to get started and share my experience with the younger players and do everything I can to help the team push for Finals.”

Glory Football Director Stan Lazaridis believes O’Shea will bring valuable quality and experience to the squad.

“Jay has been right up there as one of the very best and most consistent performers in the A-League for the past six or seven years and is a class act,” he said.

“His stats speak for themselves in terms of goals and assists, but he also brings so much more to the table.

“He’s able to dictate the tempo of games, his range of passing is absolutely top drawer and his set-piece delivery is a massive weapon too.

“Just as important as these attributes will be the vital experience, composure and know-how that Jay will bring to what is the second-youngest squad in the A-League.

“He’s a fantastic character who will be an excellent mentor on and off the pitch for the talented young players we have coming through.

“Jay is really excited to be joining us for the rest of the season and there is no doubt in my mind that he will make a massive contribution as we continue to drive for Finals football.”

O’Shea could be set to feature against his old club on Friday night when Perth Glory travel to Suncorp Stadium to face Brisbane Roar in Matchweek 2 of the 2026/27 A-League Men season.
