Spanish midfielder Andreu has warned Perth’s Hyundai A-League rivals the Glory will soon reach their best once the club overcomes their injury woes.
Glory returned to winning ways on Saturday night with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Wellington Phoenix at nib Stadium.
Diego Castro, starting his first match in almost two months, got the winner in the second half to move Kenny Lowe’s side back into the top six.
It was a crucial win for Glory, who did it without star attackers Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart, midfielder Xavi Torres and defender Alex Grant through injury.
“It has been a tough season. We’ve had many injuries, Myself, Diego [Castro]…important players so we’re suffering a lot,” Andreu told Fox Sports.
“We cannot play easily because we’re suffering so many injuries. Hopefully the players will start coming back in the next few weeks and we’ll improve 100%.”
“The first half was maybe a little bit boring for the crowd, but the second half we tried to play more attacking and the goal came from a great action from the team. I think we’ll improve a lot in the next weeks.”
Glory have been notoriously slow starters in recent Hyundai A-League seasons and despite their injury toll are well-placed in fifth spot after 11 rounds.
Asked what it means to the club to be back in the top six, Andreu said. “We always we want to be in the top six.
“It was a very unlucky game against Newcastle and I think we deserve to be there.
“For sure we’ll improve when we get all the squad together and we don’t have injuries.”
Glory is back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Brisbane to play the Roar.
