Mariners v Wanderers: Your Hyundai A-League stats preview

It was an entertaining 2-2 draw the last time these two teams met and another cracker is on the cards on Saturday night as Central Coast Mariners host Western Sydney Wanderers.

Both teams are coming off a defeat but it’s the Mariners who are currently in the top six, with the Wanderers just one place off the bottom of the ladder.

It should be a Super Saturday clash in Gosford and Opta Data has all you need to know.

  • Central Coast Mariners are undefeated in their last two Hyundai A-League games against the Wanderers (W1, D1), after going winless in their five clashes prior (D1, L4).
  • Western Sydney have won their last three games against the Mariners in the Hyundai A-League at Central Coast Stadium, outscoring the home side 8-2 in that span.
  • The Mariners have won two games at Central Coast Stadium already this Hyundai A-League  campaign, a third win would be their equal most since they won five at the venue in 2014/15.
  • The Wanderers come into this fixture on the back of three losses in the Hyundai A-League  in which they’ve scored zero goals. The last and only time they lost more game in succession was a five-game drought in 2014.
  • Paul Okon’s men have conceded only two goals in the opening half-hour of games this Hyundai A-League season, the equal fewest of any team in the competition (alongside Western Sydney).
  • The Wanderers have an Expected Goals Scored of 6.6 away from home this Hyundai A-League season but have scored just five, making them one of only two teams (Wellington) to have a negative differential on the road this campaign.
  • Mariners flyer Andrew Hoole is set to make his 100th appearance in the Hyundai A-League.
  • Midfielders Wout Brama (615) and Kearyn Baccus (595) will go head-to-head this round and are the two busiest passers so far this Hyundai A-League season.
