A crowd of 3,650 filled a windy McDonald Jones Stadium to see Perth Glory take on Newcastle Jets for their first home game of the season.
Coming off a 4-0 win against Melbourne Victory last weekend, the Jets were clearly confident and dominated the first 10 minutes of the game.
Following a save, Jets American keeper, Kelsey Wys fell awkwardly and was substituted resulting in an immediate blow to the Jets’ play.
The first half remained stop-start after another injury for Perth’s Vanessa Di Bernardo.
The Jets were often threatened from multiple breaks from Glory’s Sam Kerr, yet the scoreboard remained scoreless at half time.
At the beginning of the second half, a cross from Jenna Kingsley saw Jets American import Jen Hoy taken down and awarded a penalty.
With an effortless strike, Hoy hit the back of the net and the Jets came away with their first goal at McDonald Jones Stadium for the season.
Hoy’s goal lifted the spirits of Newcastle and there was frequent action on the right side of the field from Kingsley, however, the Jets were unlucky in not finding the back of the net again, despite many goal opportunities for the home side.
Although there was a desperate push from Perth, the Jets were able to hold onto their lead.
