Mariners announce Canberra draft selections

The Central Coast Mariners today announced three players and one coach from Canberra who will join the Hyundai A-League outfit for a week-long trial and coaching development stint at the club’s Centre of Excellence.

The successful players are Jordan Tsekenis and Jeremy Habtemariam who are both 19-years-old from Canberra Olympic along with 20-year-old Andrew Slavich from Tuggeranong United.

All three players took the field against the Central Coast Mariners last night at Woden Enclosed where Tsekenis took the headlines in game one with a double against the Yellow & Navy.

Luka Ujdur from Belconnen United FC is the coach who has been offered an opportunity to spend a week developing his skills under the coaching staff of the Central Coast Mariners. Ujdur was also the Capital North Region Select coach in the first game of Tuesday night’s double header that ended 2-2 against the Mariners.

Today at Woden Rebel, Central Coast Mariners’ CEO, Shaun Mielekamp made the announcement to media and outlined the Capital Draft initiative.

“Firstly I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Phil Brown and his team from Capital Football for hosting us last night and being so welcoming to us in Canberra,” Mielekamp said.

“The two games were great last night, we were really impressed with the quality and we are now in a position to announce the three players and a coach that will join us for a week.

“This morning I had the pleasure of contacting Jordan, Jeremy, Andrew and Luka to offer them the opportunity with us and they were all over the moon.

“All three players had stand out games against us last night and we are working with Capital Football to ensure that these opportunities continue in the future.

“In essence these players will join the club for a full trial, partake in an intra-club pre-season friendly and from there they are in the hands of the football department which is their opportunity to showcase what they can do,” Mielekamp said.

The Central Coast Mariners are working with the players and coach involved to ensure a suitable trial week is reached.
