He’s a Barcelona legend who’s played alongside Pep Guardiola and guided the club’s famed youth policy – which makes Guillermo Amor a massive asset to the Foxtel A-League All Stars and Australian football.
Amor, 46, is in Australia for a month to assist Josep Gombau at Adelaide United.
The pair’s link with the Catalan club – Gombau has also worked in the Barca development system – smoothed the way for Amor to offer his valuable expertise.
The Reds face Malaga later this month in a friendly at Adelaide Oval and have a Westfield FFA Cup match in August ahead of the new Hyundai A-League season in October.
And as an added bonus, Amor will assist Gombau ahead of the Foxtel A-League All Stars match in Sydney against Juventus on August 10.
And what a bonus that will be as the best from the Hyundai A-League prepare to take on the Italian champions.
Amor, who arrived in Adelaide last Friday, was capped 37 times for Spain during the 1990s, representing his country during the World Cup in 1998 and the European Championship in 1996.
But it was at Barca where he made his name over a decade winning five Primera División championships, two UEFA European Cup Winners' Cups and the European Champion Clubs' Cup with a defeat of Sampdoria at Wembley in 1992.
Amor played for the club for 14 years, starting off with Barca’s B-side as a youth player then ten glorious years in the famous shirt after debuting under Johann Cruyff.
Amor played alongside Pep Guardiola in the first team during the 1990s and racked up over 300 appearances and almost 50 goals in his time at the club.
Little wonder the club wanted him back after his career finally wound down 11 years ago.
He spent four years back at the club in a youth coaching capacity before returning in 2010 as technical director of youth football.
Now some of that magic will be sprinkled on both Adelaide and the Foxtel A-League All Stars.
Champions of Italy, Juventus, take on the FOXTEL A-League All Stars led by the Italian champion Alessandro Del Piero at ANZ Stadium, Sydney on Sunday 10 August.
