Jets eager to bounce back in front of home fans

Scott Neville says the Jets are determined to put their Round 1 loss behind them by bouncing back in front of their home fans on Sunday.

Newcastle Jets defender Scott Neville says the Jets are determined to put their Round 1 loss behind them by bouncing back in a strong fashion in front of their home fans when they take on Perth Glory at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

After all the excitement and anticipation in the lead up to last Friday-s season opener against Sydney FC, Neville said it came as a big disappointment for the Jets playing squad to come away from the match empty handed.

Neville said the Jets were looking forward to getting back in front of the Club-s Members and supporters in their first home match of the 2013/14 Hyundai A-League season this weekend.

“Everyone was pretty disappointed after Friday,” Neville said.

“After a six month pre-season, we were really looking forward to the first game and it obviously wasn-t the result we were after.

“It-s done and dusted now, there-s nothing we can do (to change it).

“We-ve just got to look forward to the rest of the season, get some confidence within the team and build from there.

“We-ve just got to pick ourselves up and get ready for the Perth game on Sunday.

“It-ll be great to be playing in front of all our Members and supporters again and hopefully there will be a big crowd there to get behind us.”

Neville said the Jets wouldn-t be reading too much into Friday-s loss to the Sky Blues, or the results of other matches around the A-League on the opening weekend of the competition.

“It-s only Round 1 and I think if you look across the A-League games from the weekend, no team has really hit their straps, apart from maybe Adelaide, so I think you-ll see a big improvement in most teams as the weeks go on,” Neville said.

“We lost our first game last season, then won the next three as well, so I think you can-t get a true indication of the way teams play until maybe Round 3 or Round 4 or even a bit further along.”

Neville highlighted a couple of key areas of improvement for the Jets ahead of Sunday-s clash with his former Club.

“I thought against we were pretty solid defensively, obviously aside from the two mistakes for the goals,” Neville explained.

“Bridgey might be back this week and Emile is only a few weeks away, so a few of the boys in the front third will be looking to put their hand up, take their chances and show what they can do.

“As a team collectively, we-ve just got to get better and I think we-ll come out with all guns blazing against Perth this weekend.”
