Melbourne Heart have boosted their midfield stocks ahead of the Hyundai A-league Finals with the signing of former Adelaide player Paul Reid.
The 32-year-old, who has made over 250 first-team appearances in a career spanning a decade, was a key player at the Reds before a messy fallout with then coach Rini Coolen resulted in his departure.
With influential captain Fred ruled out for a number of weeks due to injury, Reid will provide valuable cover as the regular season draws to a close.
“Everyone is aware of Paul’s quality and professionalism, and he has proven himself to be a strong performer at Hyundai A-League level,” coach John van ‘t Schip said.
“Given we are likely to lose three players to Qantas Olyroo duty throughout February, Paul will provide us with flexibility and cover across the middle of the park during this important time of the season.”
Reid will be unavailable for this weekend’s clash with reigning champions Brisbane Roar, but will be cleared to make his debut the following week against Wellington Phoenix.
