Following a successful first appearance of the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season at AAMI Park, and a not so successful trip to New South Wales, Victory are back at the Etihad and are looking for another fine vocal performance from a typically big turnout.
So bring your mates and spend your Saturday night the way it should be spent, by taking in some live Hyundai A-League action!
There are two reasons that Melbourne Victory will be going that extra yard to ensure they pick up a win this Saturday. Firstly, they’ll want to get their own back on a side that, until recently, they had dominated in terms of results.
However, when they made the trip to Adelaide earlier in the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, they came away on the end of a1-0 loss, after Sergio Van Dijk pounced on a misplaced pass from Fabio to send a sell-out crowd at Hindmarsh Stadium wild.
Secondly, and more pressingly, Victory will be looking to right the wrongs of last week, when they went down in Newcastle. What was most disappointing about the loss is that came it about from a winning position.
The visitors seemed perhaps to be on their way to three valuable points after an absolute beauty from Carlos Hernandez put them in the box seat. But they were soon pegged back and then found themselves behind shortly after half-time.
However, they will feel very hard done by that, before Jets sealed the match with a late Ryan Griffiths strike, they had claims for what looked like a clear penalty when Nikolai Topor-Stanley brought down Archie Thompson when he was through on goal. However, rather than a spot-kick, a possible red card for the defender and a chance for the away side to perhaps even go on and win the game, the referee gave nothing and Melbourne were defeated.
While Victory might feel that the loss in Newcastle was a little harsh, their opponents this weekend can have no complaints about their last result.
On Friday, Adelaide United suffered their worst ever home defeat, as Central Coast Mariners recorded a comprehensive 4-0 victory over The Reds. The home side may have started brightly enough, but found themselves 3-0 behind at half-time courtesy of goals to Mustafa Amini, Bernie Ibini and a Patrick Zwaanswijk penalty before Roystn Griffiths completed the rout in the second-half.
Last time these two sides met, a sell-out crowd cheered Adelaide United on to three points, so now it’s time to show The Reds just what an effect a vocal Etihad Stadium can have on the outcome.
