Awaritefe, Victory part ways

Melbourne Victory’s Football Director Francis Awaritefe has walked out on the club after just four months in the job.

Melbourne Victory’s Football Director Francis Awaritefe has walked out on the club after just four months in the job.

Awaritefe has been reported to be unhappy with his transition into the role over recent months and has been speaking to the club about a release from his contract.

“I approached Richard Wilson (Managing Director) and told him that after much deliberation, I didn’t want to pursue the role any further,” he said in a statement.

“While I have enjoyed working with the staff at Melbourne Victory, I have decided to return to Sydney for personal reasons.”

Despite his title, Awaritefe, who has spent most of his time since ending his decorated playing working in the media, has spent little time working with the senior team, with much of his attention apparently focused on building the club’s academy plans.

Melbourne Victory-s General Managing director Richard Wilson said the club appreciated Awaritefe’s efforts and honesty.

The club has immediately set about finding a replacement.
