Brisbane Roar captain Matt Smith has poured cold water on rumours head coach Ange Postecoglou might leave the club for Japanese giants Urawa Red Diamonds.
The Courier-Mail reported that the struggling Asian club – one of the most popular in Japan – have identified the championship-winning coach as their first choice to take over, with Central Coast Mariners boss Graham Arnold also believed to be in the frame.
Postecoglou is contracted to Brisbane until 2013, and said that he had not heard anything from Urawa representatives.
If they did make me an offer, I’d think about it then,” Postecoglou told the Courier-Mail.
“I’ve never made plans too far in the future with coaching because things are always changing.
“All I’m focused on is being successful as I can with Brisbane, and keep building what we’ve started.”
This morning, Roar skipper Matt Smith said he knew nothing about the rumours and believed Postecoglou would remain with the Hyundai A-League premiers.
“I read it in the paper but I haven-t heard anything, so I would assume Ange is here for a long time until I hear differently,” Smith said.
