Central Coast will be out to rediscover its best when the Mariners take on one of their fiercest rivals in the A-League on Wednesday night.
The fourth-placed Mariners tackle the improving Newcastle Jets at EnergyAustralia Stadium in what is a big week for the Mariners.
Graham Arnold’s team finally returned home on Sunday, but failed to fire in front of goals and lost 3-2 to the Gold Coast.
It was a performance that frustrated Arnold. He said his team created enough chances to have the much won at half-time.
Arnold believes the quick turnaround for his team is tough physically, but might be just what the team needs.
“The quick turnaround is tough but will be good for us after Sunday,” Arnold said.
“That wasn’t our best performance so we get another chance against the Jets. It’s always a good contest.”
While the Mariners have had a solid start to the season the Jets started slowly and are building nicely.
Meanwhile, the Mariners are still unsure when star recruit Patricio Perez will return.
The attacking midfielder has played only three games since joining the club after battling hamstring and hip problems.
He is training with the side, but is still not ready for a return to action. In his place Young Socceroo Mustafa Amini continues to improve and will again play a part against the Jets.
It is a big week for the Mariners. After Wednesday night the Mariners will focus on stifling Brisbane’s in-form attack when the Queenslanders visit Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford on Sunday.
