Adelaide United has re-signed young star Iain Ramsay with the speedster agreeing to a contract extension that will keep him with the club for another two years.
Ramsay had initially penned a one-year deal back in July but a spate of recent impressive performances has seen the Reds keen to secure the services of the 22 year-old beyond this season.
The prized signature comes on the back of the former Sydney FC Youth player of the year helping United to claim maximum points against his old club on Monday, nailing an injury-time winner.
Ramsay also bagged a double late in the game, including an 87th minute winner, to help the Reds record a 3-2 victory against Melbourne Heart in Week 3.
The fleet-footed winger has credited the tutelage of Reds coach Rini Coolen and assistant Phil Stubbins as the main reason for putting pen to paper on a new deal.
“From the start everyone at the club has been very welcoming towards me and made it easy for me to settle in quickly,” he said.
“My performances so far have helped me a lot and I have very much enjoyed it here. I think it is the right place for me to stay and I’m enjoying every minute of it so far.”
“With Rini and Stubbsy, their coaching will definitely benefit me for my future, and their belief that I can be a player that is capable of doing well at this club was a big influence in my decision to stay here.”
Coolen also expressed his delight with Ramsay electing to stay on at United, saying he is looking forward to working with and developing further the pacey wingman.
“I’m very happy. We worked with him (Ramsay) in the pre season and a few weeks ago we sat down and spoke to him about staying with us for a longer period,” Coolen said.
“He’s a young player who still needs to develop and learn a lot of things, but he has a lot of potential and I told him I would like to work with him longer.”
“With young players maybe they have some more options to go to other places, but he told us he wanted to stay here, so that is a good sign and we are happy that he has decided to be with us.”
