Central Coast midfielder Nicky Travis is out to make sure the Mariners capitalise on their chances when they take on Brisbane on Saturday night.
The Mariners went down to table-topping Melbourne 3-0 last week and missed a number of great opportunities, with Travis coming up short on two occasions.
First he sent a shot just wide of the upright and then minutes later he was denied by a fine save from Victory goalkeeper Mitch Langerak.
But Travis and the rest of his team-mates will take plenty of out of the performance and he hopes to turn it around against the Roar this weekend.
“I thought we played some good stuff at times but Melbourne took their chances and we didn’t,” said Travis.
“We probably could have taken something out of the game, and I thought we deserved to. When Melbourne took their chances we were pushing for a goal but it just didn’t seem to be going in.”
“My shot in the first half was at 0-0 and if that goes in it is a different game, especially when we are so good at holding on to points when we do go a goal up.”
Central Coast hasn’t celebrated a home win over Brisbane since the inaugural Pre-Season Cup back in 2005, but Travis, who joined the club at the start of this season, isn’t concerned with that statistic.
The 22-year-old scored in the most recent clash between the two sides in Round 11, which the Mariners won 3-0, and he is hoping to find the back of the net again this week.
“Brisbane is a good team but obviously they have had a shake up recently so hopefully we can hit them hard, especially at our home ground and after a couple of bad results,” he said.
“It was nice to get a goal so I’ll be looking to get in the box and have a few shots.”
Currently in fifth place, the Mariners need a win against the ninth-placed Roar to keep pace with the top four.
