North Queensland has confirmed that Qantas Socceroo David Williams has agreed to join the new club on a loan deal from Danish outfit Brondby.
Williams, 21, has been looking for regular football after struggling to break into Brondby’s first team, and had gone on a trial with Bidvest Vits in South Africa last week.
But the youngster preferred a loan move back to the Hyundai A-League and flew into Perth to meet with Fury officials ahead of Wednesday’s match against English Premier League club Wolves.
Coach Ian Ferguson is delighted to have signed Williams, who played two games for the Roar in 2006 before heading to Europe.
“David is an exciting prospect for the Fury, he brings goal-scoring ability and speed to the squad and of course, he’s played for his country at underage levels and for the Qantas Socceroos in a World Cup Qualifier against China last year,” Ferguson said.
“David’s got a great reputation even at his young age and being an under-21 player and hopefully he’ll continue to develop as a player. It’s great to have a young player of his talent in the squad.”
“He’s been playing in Denmark with Brondby IF since 2006,” Ferguson said. “We heard the club had lent him out for a trial in South Africa and thought we’d make a play for him and it’s paid off.”
Williams is a chance to play in Wednesday’s match against Wolves. The signing completes Fury’s squad ahead of their first season, which begins in Townsville against Sydney on August 8.
