Adelaide United FC has officially unveiled its new home and alternate playing strips, The Reds revealing a black alternate strip for the 2009/10 Hyundai A-League season.
The strip launch took place on top of Montefiore Hill, the city of Adelaide and surrounding Adelaide Hills providing a picturesque background, with Captain Travis Dodd and defender Daniel Mullen modelling the new kits.
United-s new home strip remains similar to previous seasons displaying the traditional red with a few minor variances to the trim, while the club has gone with an appealing predominantly black strip to wear at selected away matches.
Each Hyundai A-League club will have a home and an alternate strip in 2009/10 but unlike previous seasons where the away team has worn a predominantly white strip, Adelaide will wear the alternate strip if there is a clash with their opponent-s team strip when playing away from home.
Dodd, who proudly modelled the home strip, was impressed with the latest designs and colours, the midfielder looking forward to running out in the new apparel and starting the new season.
“We-re really looking forward to it. It has been a long pre season and we had a good off season break so we-ve worked hard and we are counting down to our first game in August,” Dodd said.
“If I had to choose I-d prefer the red one. We-re ‘The Reds- so I-d like to see us in the red strip more often than not.”
On the black alternate strip Mullen said, “It-s nice and something a bit different. I don-t think we-ve had the black before in Adelaide and to be honest I rather it than the red strip.”
The Reds will wear the new home strip for the first time next Friday night in the pre-season friendly against Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium. Having played three trials against local clubs in the past three weeks, the game against the Glory will be United-s first against Hyundai A-League opposition ahead of Round 1, which sees The Reds face the Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium on August 7.
“We-ve done a lot more team structure, played a few friendly games against local sides so it will be a good gauge on where we-re at with our pre season,” Dodd said in previewing the trial match against Perth.
“Perth have picked up some good players so we-re expecting them to come out strong and it should be a good hit out for us. We-ve been working a lot on the same principles as last year so we need to improve on that a bit more, be a bit more lethal in front of goal and hopefully we can have a positive year.”
Tickets for the trial match are available now through Venue*Tix.
Adelaide United 2009/10 memberships and season tickets will go on sale from 9am Monday 22 June 2009.
