North Queensland has secured the services of experienced Scottish defender Scott Wilson for the next two seasons.
The 31-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the new Hyundai A-League club, having captained Dunfermline and also played for Rangers and Portsmouth.
Wilson joins marquee signing Robbie Fowler and fellow overseas players Felipe, Jeremy Brockie and James Robinson for the club’s inaugural season.
“I’m trying to build a team with experience and young legs and Scott was in my thoughts right from the start,” Fury coach Ian Ferguson said.
“When I was getting players on board, it kept coming back to me that a player like Scott would be a good fit.”
“I think he’s the best in the Scottish League at the moment and he’ll certainly bring a lot to the team with the experience he-s got.”
Ferguson first crossed paths with Wilson in 1993 at Rangers when the then 16-year-old was signed from the club’s youth system.
“He was only a young boy then coming through the ranks but he played a lot of Premier league games for them,” Ferguson said.
“He’s only 31 now so he’s probably got three or four good seasons to play.”
The Fury coach also said that Wilson’s leadership qualities from the back will be invaluable for the team.
“He’ll let the other boys know if something isn’t right,” he said.
“Scott brings us another leader – someone who can help bring some of the younger ones through.”
