Fabiano ban reduced

Melbourne Victory striker Ney Fabiano has failed in his appeal against his nine-match suspension, but successfully got the penalty reduced.

Melbourne Victory striker Ney Fabiano has failed in his appeal against his nine-match suspension, but successfully got the penalty reduced.

Fabiano was hit with a nine-match suspension by the independent Disciplinary Committee last Wednesday, after he was sent off for spitting at Adelaide’s Robert Cornthwaite in Melbourne’s 1-0 victory at Telstra Dome on Friday night.

The Independent Appeal Committee dismissed the appeal against the finding that the player intentionally spat at Cornthwaite.

However, the Committee upheld Fabiano’s appeal in relation to the sanction for the offence, and reduced it to the minimum sanction for the offence of five matches plus the mandatory match suspension for a total of six matches.

Fabiano will now be able to play again in Round 11 of the Hyundai A-league.
