Under FFA’s new disciplinary procedures introduced for the 2008-09 Hyundai A-League season, the Match Review Panel has the role of reviewing match incidents including all red card offences, proposing sanctions, rectifying obvious errors in disciplinary decisions and referring matters to the independent Disciplinary Committee if appropriate.
Djulbic was sent off in the 20th minute of his side’s loss to Sydney FC for allegedly spitting at referee Peter Green, after losing his cool when Green pointed to the spot after Adriano Pellegrino brought Steve Corica down inside the penalty box.
The independent panel determined that Djulbic was guilty of an R6 offence (unsporting conduct towards a match official) and proposed a five match sanction – the compulsory one match suspension for a red card offence and an additional four matches.
The panel also found Newcastle Jets defender Ben Kantarovski guilty of denying the opposing team a clear goal scoring opportunity (R4 offence) by handling the ball in the penalty box in the 78th minute of the match against Melbourne Victory at Telstra Dome on Friday night.
He has been offered the mandatory one-match ban.
Both Djulbic and D’Apuzzo have a right to appeal to the disciplinary committee and have until 12:00pm September 2 to lodge an appeal.
