Adelaide United has finalised its squad for the upcoming 2008/09 Hyundai A-League season after completing the signing of Paul Reid from English club Brighton and Hove Albian.
The midfielder/defender has signed a two-year deal with the Reds, which takes their squad list to the maximum 23 players allowed.
Adelaide coach Aurelio Vidmar met with Reid in London earlier this year for preliminary talks and was delighted to finally secure the services of the 29-year-old.
“We’re extremely pleased to have secured Paul for this season,” Vidmar said.
“He was one of the standouts in the NSL during his time with the Wollongong Wolves and with his experience in England, we believe he will be a really significant contributor to our group.”
“I’m certain he will fit into the team really well, and he has signalled that he is eager to join the club and do everything he can to help the club be successful this season.”
Reid was born in Sydney, and carved out a decent career in the old NSL winning two championships in his four seasons with the Wollongong Wolves. He then had a brief stint with English outfit Bradford City, before finally settling with Brighton.
Reid has been doing pre-season training in England, so will come to Adelaide with a strong fitness base under his belt.
