City’s classy gesture to young fan hit by the ball in Semi Final win

Curtis Good doesn’t have too many shots but a rare attempt at goal went a little wrong, especially for a young Melbourne City fan in Tuesday night’s FFA Cup 2019 Semi Final.

The City defender’s powerful strike sailed into the crowd, accidently striking a young boy in the head.

Concerned about the youngster’s welfare, Good sought out the boy and his family after the match and presented him his playing jersey.

City players also posed for a photo with the boy and his young sister, whose family are club members and travelled from Toowomba to watch the game.

Bravo Curtis and Melbourne City!

The touching gesture was a icing on the cake for a dominant City display as a fresh-faced teenager and Caltex Socceroos striker combined to propel them into the FFA Cup 2019 Final.

Midfielder Connor Metcalfe and speedy frontman Jamie Maclaren were both star contributors as City overcame Brisbane Strikers 5-1 in Tuesday night’s Semi Final.

Metcalfe, 19, continued to show why coach Erick Mombaerts has huge wraps on him heading into the new Hyundai A-League Season.

Having been around the City first-team for the last two years, the Newcastle-born playmaker appears ready to become a regular in 2019/20.

He certainly did his case no harm against the Queensland NPL side at Perry Park, providing energy and thrust from the middle of the park.

And it was his equalising goal – after Andy Pengelly’s shock early opener for the Strikers – on the half-hour mark that pulled the Hyundai A-League side back into the match.

It was a goal that underlined his talent, showing great confidence to strike from distance as well as the class to execute the finish into the bottom corner of the net.

“I’m very happy to get my first goal for the club,” a delighted Metcalfe told Fox Sports after the match.

“It’s going to be my first final and all the boys are buzzing.

“It’s been a really good pre-season. We’ve only lost one game in the whole of pre-season and confidence is high.”

Maclaren’s quality has been more well-documented, scoring a stack of goals in the Hyundai A-League in recent years.

But the 26-year-old looks primed to go to another level in 2019/20.

He looks fit and sharp in front of goal, scoring in every round of the FFA Cup 2019 so far.

His brace against the Strikers takes his tally to six from four outings to be the competition’s leading scorer.

With these two in such devastating form – and the rest of City’s squad oozing confidence – the Melbourne side are every chance to win their second FFA Cup crown in three years.
