Reds break City hearts with stoppage time winner
A late cameo from Daniele Bressan handed Adelaide United their second win of the season as the Reds’ substitute scored a 96th-minute winner in a dramatic 3-2 win over Melbourne City at Jack Smith Park.
Adam Leombruno opened the scoring for Adelaide in the first half and the hosts took the one goal lead into the sheds at half time, before City starlet Idrus Abdulahi scored an equaliser minutes into the second half.
Proceedings continued in the same vein as Binyam Kebede gave Adelaide back the lead before City drew level once again through Jordi Valadon in the 78th minute to set up a blockbuster finish.
With less than five minutes to play Daniele Bressan replaced Jai King-Byrne and was ultimately the difference in the game.
Bressan’s composed finish in the sixth minute of stoppage left City winless from their first three games and sent the Reds to second place in Group B within touching distance of Brisbane Roar in first.

Kucharski hat-trick hands Wanderers a heavy defeat
Sydney FC’s frontline was at its free-flowing best on Saturday afternoon as a Jaidan Kucharski hat-trick inspired the Sky Blues to a 6-0 win over Western Sydney at Nestrata Jubilee Stadium.
Kucharski had his first goal within the first three minutes of play, and not long after assisting the Kucharski goal Sydney creator Marco Tilio scored one of his own with a curling effort from the edge of the box.
With 24 minutes played Kucharski nabbed his second of the game, pouncing on a loose ball to hammer a strike into the roof of the net.
Two goals on either side of half time to Jordi Swibel compiled the Wanderers’ misery, before Kucharski stepped up to clinch his hat-trick, pouncing on an errant back-pass to round the goalkeeper and tuck the ball home.
The emphatic 6-0 score line sent Sydney to the top of Group A with a visit to last-placed Canberra United on the cards in Round 5.
Brisbane make light work of Glory in 4-0 away win
Brisbane travelled to face the winless Perth Glory on Sunday afternoon and came away with three points in a dominant display at Dorrien Gardens.
George Mells broke the deadlock with 37 minutes played, finishing off a swift Roar counter attack to put the visitors ahead, before Duantae Mariner doubled Brisbane’s lead on the cusp of half-time.
After a quiet first half Roar attacker Keegan Jelacic stepped forward in the second period to score a brace which sealed a comfortable 4-0 win.
His first of the game came early in the second half when he bullied the Glory defence to forge an opening which he duly capitalised on, before getting his second of the game with ten minutes to play.
The result was Brisbane’s second win of the season, ensuring their unbeaten start continued into Round 5 where they will host Adelaide United at AJ Kelly Park.
