Zenon Caravella commits to Jets

Newcastle Jets midfielder Zenon Caravella has extended his contract at the EnergyAustralia Stadium until the end of the 2014-15 A-League season.

Newcastle Jets midfielder Zenon Caravella has extended his contract at the EnergyAustralia Stadium until the end of the 2014-15 A-League season.

Caravella joined the Jets from Adelaide United in January, having previously spent time at the now-defunct Gold Coast United.

The 30-year-old Cairns-born central midfielder made six starts for the Jets in the latter stages of the season, and Caravella – a nephew of Sydney FC coach Frank Farina – said he was happy with his spot at the Jets ahead of their season-opening clash against his uncle’s outfit.

“I feel very comfortable with where I am at the moment with my football and my life outside of the game,” Caravella said in a release.

“The most important thing for anyone in any job they have is to be happy and comfortable in their work environment and I’m very happy in Newcastle.

“I’m just looking forward to being able to concentrate solely on the season ahead and doing my best for the team and the club.”

Jets coach Gary van Egmond said Caravella was a valuable leader for Newcastle’s youthful squad.

“It’s great to have Zenon here for another year,” van Egmond said.

“As we’ve all seen, his contribution on the field is fantastic and the contribution he makes off the field and the guidance he gives some of the younger players is great as well.

“He reads the game extremely well, he’s a very hard worker, he’s very popular with the other players and he’s done exceptionally well since he joined the club.”

Newcastle and Sydney go head-to-head at the Allianz Stadium on Friday night.
