Wanderers young gun scores as Young Matildas fall to defeat in China

Western Sydney Wanderers young gun Alexia Apostolakis found the net as Young Matildas’ two-game series against China has ended in defeat, falling to a 3-1 loss on Wednesday in Xiamen.

Leah Blayney made made five changes to the side that defeated China by the same scoreline on Sunday.

Indiana Dos Santos, Zoe Karipidis, Milan Hammond, Lara Gooch and Grace Johnston came into the starting lineup for Alana Murphy, Kahli Johnson, Sasha Grove, Peta Trimis and Milly Boughton as Blayney shuffled the deck for their final game on tour.

China took a three-goal advantage, before Apostolakis scored a consolation in the dying minutes.

Naomi Chinnama’s header from a Zara Kruger corner was well saved by the China goalkeeper, before Apostolakis slammed home the goal from the resulting scrimmage – her first for the Young Matildas.

The loss wraps up a tour which has served as preparation for the upcoming U20 Asian Cup to be held in Uzbekistan in March.
