We will be looking to consolidate our spot in the top six when we take on Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday.
It’s a luxury that hasn’t been afforded to Hyundai A-League heavyweights Brisbane Roar over the last few years.
But if there’s a silver lining to the club’s slow start to the 2017/18 Season, goalkeeper Jamie Young believes it’s that most rivals have written off their title hopes.
John Aloisi’s side has found some solid form of late, losing just one of their last seven matches in the Hyundai A-League.
And Young – deputising for the injured Michael Theo – has been a key part of the improvement, keeping clean sheets in his last two appearances.
“It’s certainly not down to me, it has been a great whole-team contribution to keep clean sheets in the last two games,” the gloveman said.
“In this league, if you get a good burst of form you can quickly improve your placing on the ladder.
“We’re slowly doing that and we have to believe in ourselves. A couple of good results and we are right back up there.
“We’re travelling under the radar at the moment and there’s no reason we can’t be up there again this season.”
Roar’s next test comes on Sunday night in a huge clash against a desperate Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium.
The two clubs are level on 10 points, with Roar ahead of Victory in sixth spot on goal difference.
It makes for a vital Round 11 clash between two clubs that have built up quite a rivalry in recent seasons, with the winner to end the weekend in the top six.
“We’ve had a great rivalry over the years with the Victory and I’m sure this weekend will be no different,” Young said.
“We’ve had a few tough games away from Suncorp Stadium but now we’re back and we’ll be looking to capitalise.
“There is that fortress feeling about the stadium and we want to take advantage of that.”
