Yorke to take Bulls by horns as Macarthur coach

Dwight Yorke will begin his coaching career in the Isuzu UTE A-League, appointed head coach of Macarthur FC.

Manchester United great Yorke will take charge of Macarthur on a two-year deal following the departure of Ante Milicic at the end of the club’s 2021-22 A-League Men campaign.

Yorke is gearing up for the A-Leagues All Stars’ blockbuster showdown as head coach against LaLiga powerhouse Barcelona in Sydney on May 25.

But the former Sydney FC marquee’s stay Down Under will be permanent as he prepares to lead Macarthur back to the finals, not before going face-to-face with Barca.

“I am extremely excited in what is my first-ever senior full-time head coaching role, to take the reins at Macarthur FC,” Yorke said.

“Having played in the inaugural A-League men’s season, I have continually followed the competition, and am aware of both the footballing and fan demands in Australia.

“I look forward to adding a positive contribution and improve the game at all levels, however of course my primary focus will be with the Bulls, to deliver them success and a style of football that defined me as a player.”

Macarthur finished seventh this season, six points adrift of the finals places under Milicic.

Yorke, who was involved with Sydney during the inaugural A-League Men season, brings a wealth of experience and silverware to Campbelltown Stadium.

The 50-year-old won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his time with United at Old Trafford before helping the Sky Blues to A-Leagues glory in 2006.

“On behalf of the board of Macarthur FC, I would like to welcome Dwight to the club,” said Bulls chief executive Sam Krslovic.

“Dwight’s football exposure and achievements speak volumes for themselves. As a young club, the appointment of Dwight is synonymous with our evolution.”
