De Vanna will suit up again this week in Brisbane Roar colours, facing her old club Perth Glory. Whilst the Glory girls will be happy to see their old teammate healthy and back on the park, they may not share the same excitement as most women-s football fans do, since they face the difficult job in having to close her down!
Brisbane Roar totally dominated the Jets in last Saturday-s match, winning 4-0.
Based on that performance it would be safe to say that the Roar have regained the form that fans have come to expect of them.
This outstanding team performance was attributed to flawless individual performances across the entire team. To name a few, players such as Kim Carrol, Clare Polkinghorne, Elise Kellond-Knight and Tameka Butt raised the standard and all played exceptional games.
It-s impossible to overlook striker Lana Harch when mentioning a stand out, as she managed to bag another two goals to add to her tally.
The addition of Westfield Matildas striker Lisa De Vanna, who has recovered from a leg injury, adds greater strength to an already solid and well-structured Roar team. De Vanna made her debut for the Roar on Saturday coming on in the final 20 minutes, wasting no time in terrorising the defence, drawing a penalty, then eagerly slotting it to claim her first goal.
Another display like Saturday-s will be required in order to snatch the three points from the Glory-s grasp, given that the girls from the west have also hit their stride!
Perth, revitalised from a bye last week, head into the match against Brisbane with a great deal of confidence, due to the serve they gave Adelaide in Week Two, thumping the Lady Reds 4-0.
The Glory-s “Fab Three”, Collette McCallum, Katie Gill and Sam Kerr were instrumental, demonstrating exactly why they represent the Westfield Matildas on a regular basis.
Katie Gill led the way with two well taken penalties and an all round solid performance, connecting with teammate Sam Kerr a number of times, with one in particular involved in the play that drew the second penalty.
Elise D-Ovidio also had an outstanding game creating Perth-s first chance of the match early in the first half.
The opportunity to grab points is dwindling away as we creep closer to the midseason mark.
