Brisbane Roar v Melbourne Victory
Saturday 26 November 2011
Cleveland Showgrounds, Brisbane
Local kick-off: 3pm
This match-up between two teams that have suddenly found red-hot goalscoring form should have Brisbane-based Westfield W-League fans salivating.
Both had hat-trick heroines last weekend with Tameka Butt bagging a treble in the Roar-s 5-2 win at Perth Glory, while youngster Caitlin Friend did likewise as the Victory routed Adelaide 4-0 at home.
Just a point separates the pair on the table making this contest a genuine six-pointer. Defeat for either team would just about put Canberra out of reach at the halfway mark of the season.
In the last home outing Brisbane fell 3-2 when victory appeared on the cards, only for the x-factor that is Lisa De Vanna to make the difference for the visiting Newcastle Jets. But for that late turnaround, the Roar would have claimed three wins on the trot. Now with Aivi Luik and Kim Carroll back in the ranks after their stint overseas, the champions are starting to look back to their old selves.
The Victory for their part are on a high after their 4-0 demolition of Adelaide last weekend; an equal club record scoreline. Last weekend-s win may prove to be somewhat of a breakthrough moment for the Victory after years of struggle in front of goals.
It seems the Victory have this season moved up a notch with last weekend-s win following somewhat unlucky 2-1 defeats against competition elite in the form of Sydney FC and Canberra United
