After being “written off” after the opening three rounds, Sydney FC boss Ante Juric says the Sky Blues are primed to secure a top-two finish in the Westfield W-League.
In a horror start for the club, the Sky Blues lost their opening three games of the 2017/18 Season to sit at the foot of the ladder.
But in an incredible turnaround, Juric’s side has won six of their last seven matches [with the other drawn] to now be second and just two points off league-leaders Brisbane Roar.
“We’re definitely aiming for a top two finish,” Juric declared.
“People wrote us off after the first three games but I told the girls we would get to the finals and would hit our straps in December.
“We’re confident in what we do and now we’re seven games unbeaten.”
Sydney FC’s most recent win came over in the West on Sunday night as they overcame Sam Kerr and Perth Glory to win 2-0 at Dorrien Gardens.
It was the side’s Westfield Matildas that did the damage, with Lisa De Vanna and Chloe Logarzo finding the net.
“Perth are a tough team and are fighting for the top four so to get this win on the road to keep us second in the league is excellent,” Juric said.
“At the start I said to the team it was going to be a fight. It wasn’t going to be pretty we had to work for it but they stuck to their guns and got the result.
“We’re dangerous going forward and should have wrapped it up in the first half with a number of chances. We’re still improving and with the finals around the corner, it’s going to click.”
Sydney FC’s momentum will be halted this weekend as the side has a bye before returning to action on Australia Day against Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.
