Perth Glory midfielder Brandon Wilson is looking to bundle the buzz of his Australian U/23 call-up into another Hyundai A-League victory on Thursday night.
The Botswana-born 20-year-old was named on Tuesday in Ante Milicic’s squad for the AFC U23 Championship in January.
The news capped a good week for Wilson, who helped Glory to a “much-needed” 1-0 win over Wellington Phoenix last time out.
And the ex-Burnley youth player believes his side, which managed 10 points from the opening 10 rounds, have turned the corner ahead of a trip to face Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium.
“I wouldn’t say we were going through a rough patch but we weren’t getting the results we deserved from our performances,” Wilson told a-league.com.au.
“I think we can turn it around now. We’re playing really good football I feel and we’re compact in our defence which was our biggest weakness last year.
“And we’ve got people coming back so it’s just about building on it.
“The message [from Kenny Lowe] is really to keep doing what we’re doing and cut out the mistakes at the end of games that have been costing us.”
Wilson hopes Perth will be able to settle into greater consistency with another result away to Roar, a team with which he sees similarities.
John Aloisi’s men sit ninth after taking only a single point from two successive home games.
“They’ve been playing good football, just the results haven’t been coming for them,” Wilson said.
“They’re a good ball-playing team and we like to play off the counter, so I think it’s going to be an outstanding game.”
