Williams wants more from Victory ahead of Melbourne Derby

Rhys Williams has urged his Melbourne Victory teammates to build on Sunday’s win over Brisbane Roar as they switch focus to this weekend’s Melbourne Derby.

Victory moved back into the Hyundai A-League top six thanks to their 2-1 victory over Roar at Suncorp Stadium, just their third win of the campaign.

But Kevin Muscat’s side have yet to win back-to-back matches in the 2017/18 Season and Williams wants to end that streak by taking down rivals Melbourne City at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

“We’re hitting patches on and off and we need to be more consistent,” Williams told Fox Sports.

“It’s down to us. We need to pick it up again next week.

“We’ve got a big one in the Derby and what an occasion to go again.”

Williams kick-started Victory’s triumph on Sunday, opening the scoring with a bullet header on 12 minutes from Leroy George’s corner.

George also assisted Kosta Barbarouses goal with a peach of a pass seven minutes later to make it 2-0, before Massimo Maccarone pulled one back after the break.

It was Williams’ first goal in Victory colours and the tough-tackling defender admits he was due to break his duck.

“I think I’ve had the most shots in the team, it’s about time one went in,” Williams said.

“The delivery was great. The boss has been working on set pieces and hopefully we can get a few more.”
