The North Queensland Fury his kicked a recruitment goal today after securing two strikers for the next A-League season.
As expected, Dyron Daal has agreed to a one-year deal while youngster David Williams will stay on for two.
“I’m very happy,” Williams said.
“I couldn’t want anything else at the moment, I’ve gone through a fair bit through my career,” he said.
“Obviously I still want get overseas again and make a move over there but having two years security, being here and being able to establish myself will mean a lot.”
The twenty-one year old was starting to hit his straps, stringing together some consistent form and earning his coach Ian Ferguson’s favour as a regular starter.
But just days after scoring his first goal in North Queensland colours in the club’s win against Perth (1-0), he was struck by the Fury’s injury curse.
Williams will be out for up to six weeks after suffering a grade-two hamstring tear against the Roar at Suncorp Stadium in front of friends, family and Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek.
The former youth Socceroo has set his sights on representing Australia again.
“Of course,” he said, “Everyone wants to play for their country.”
“It is in the back of my mind but I’ve just got to be playing regularly and doing well in my position,” Williams said.
Fellow striker Dyron Daal was equally pleased to come to terms on a deal.
After being brought in and retained on numerous short-term injury contracts, the big Dutchman will remain at the club for at least one more season.
“Everybody knew that I wanted to stay,” Daal said.
“If you’re in a good place, a place where you’re wanted and people appreciate you that makes you want to do better,” he said.
